Alcatel-Lucent’s seal of approval for Mobile WiMAX devices gives operators owning the company’s market-leading WiMAX infrastructure, unprecedented transparency on interoperability and performance.
Unveiled in September 2008 at the WiMAX World tradeshow in Chicago, Alcatel-Lucent’s Seal of Interoperability Acceptance for Commercial Services (SIACS) serves as proof of having completed the highest level of interoperability testing with the company’s WiMAX 802.16-2005 (Rev-e) network equipment. For each device awarded the seal, Alcatel-Lucent makes a raft of key performance indicator (KPI) data available to service providers, giving complete visibility into what the devices can do. These KPIs include metrics on: throughput, product maturity and performance, quality of service (QoS), voice quality and mobility. The Seal is awarded to products that have passed 100% of a set of mandatory tests and reached predefined levels on KPI indicators.
These tests ideally complement the WiMAX Forum Wave2 certification by adding the complete testing of end-to-end configurations including authentication, provisioning and applications as well as providing performance measures that give clear visibility of end-user experience.
Under its Open Devices Program, Alcatel-Lucent has long encouraged the expansion of the WiMAX Rev-e ecosystem through interoperability testing (IOT) with any and all device and chipset suppliers.
Alcatel-Lucent’s Open Device Program aims to provide operator customers with an unequalled choice of affordable end-user devices.
