Alcatel-Lucent Standards

Alcatel-Lucent Responsible Purchasing program relies on a set of both internal policies and external standards, setting the company's CR framework and reference standards in the CR assessment of its suppliers.

Internal Policies

A Responsible Purchasing policy and a CR purchasing process were defined in 2007 to set the goals as well as the roles and responsibilities for the management of CR in the purchasing organization. This policy and process are complementary to the EICC Supplier Code of Conduct (revision 3), the Code of Conduct and the Global Human Rights Policy already in place within the company. All of them refer to the 10 principles of the United Nations Global Compact.

In 2012, Alcatel-Lucent published its Conflict Minerals Policy to address the Human Rights and environmental issues connected with the mining and trading of tantalum, tin tungsten and gold which are used in the electronics industry Supply Chain. >>>

Alcatel-Lucent expects all suppliers, contractors and subcontractors and other third parties providing products, services and/or software to Alcatel-Lucent entities ("Suppliers") to meet the labor, environmental health & safety and ethical, management system standards expressed in the EICC Supplier Code of Conduct (revision 3) and United Nations Global Compact 10 principles.

All contracts with suppliers must include a specific clause whereby the Supplier must acknowledge that the Supplier has been made aware of the EICC Supplier Code of Conduct (revision 3) and that the Supplier agrees to apply it.

This clause also includes requirements related to EHS management and product compliance. In line with Alcatel-Lucent commitment to develop eco-declaration for its product, suppliers are required to have similar documents available for products delivered to Alcatel-Lucent (see products and environment section).

In addition, Alcatel-Lucent purchasing terms and conditions require suppliers to comply with the United Nations Global Compact 10 principles for all purchased items.

External Standards

Alcatel-Lucent in-the-field CR audits are based on SA8000 principles, thus clearly focusing on the social practices of suppliers. Other major frames of reference for the Alcatel-Lucent Responsible Purchasing program are the conventions of the International Labour Organization, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. >>>

Being a signatory of the Global Compact and Caring for Climate programs, Alcatel-Lucent asks its suppliers whether they are members of voluntary initiatives such as the Global Compact during the CR assessment process. Suppliers are strongly invited to become members themselves, as a good commitment to Corporate Responsibility in general and to the integration of the 10 principles of the Global Compact into their own strategy, corporate culture and day-to-day activities.
