Alcatel-Lucent has introduced two compact IP routing platforms designed to enable service providers to offer smaller communities the same advanced residential and business services delivered

in larger metropolitan areas. The new products extend the benefits of service routing further out in the network, and enable mission-critical verticals including utility, local government and financial institutions to confidently undertake IP transformation activities.

The new platforms for 7750 Service Router (SR) family are the 7750 SR-c12 and 7750 SR-c4. Both platforms are high performance multiservice routers optimized to the requirements of smaller network deployments. These two platforms leverage many of the same proven elements for which the service router portfolio is known:

  • The Alcatel-Lucent 100-Gig FP2 silicon
  • The highly fault tolerant and feature rich Service Router Operating System (SR OS)
  • The industry-leading 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM)
  • An unmatched range of common interface adapters

“With these additions, Alcatel-Lucent is effectively extending a proven, feature-rich platform to address new market opportunities where they need the capacity and capability, but at more cost-effective price points. The elegant integration with the existing portfolio – especially with a single operating system from end-to-end - makes it attractive to operators who are looking to deliver full featured, high performance services from their smaller or more remote points of presence in order to drive new revenues. This is the next logical evolution of the portfolio, and these platforms are powerful additions to the 7750 SR family

With 90 Gb/s of forwarding capacity, highly scalable multicore CPUs, and interface speeds up to 10 Gb/s, these two platforms offer the unique ability to address legacy, lower speed requirements while concurrently enabling operators to evolve toward high-speed MPLS-enabled carrier Ethernet services.

Business benefits include:

  • Fully-featured IP/MPLS platform in a form-factor and price point that is optimized for lower-capacity service needs
  • Leading high availability feature set supports requirements for mission critical applications with uninterrupted service delivery
  • Maximized return on investment by consolidating all services and networks onto an integrated IP/MPLS multi-service IP network
  • Minimized management and operational expenses with 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM), a fully integrated node, network, and service management system
  • Reduced carbon footprint and environmental impact by delivering a smaller foot print, lower-power consuming platform
  •   Increased service revenues and profitability by delivering high-touch, differentiated features and service capabilities

“Alcatel-Lucent continues to innovate and strengthen its IP portfolio with the addition of these two smaller service router platforms which both deliver the high performance and service scale of FP2-enabled service routing to a wider, underserved market,” said Basil Alwan, president of Alcatel-Lucent’s IP activities. “We’re broadening the appeal of our flagship 7750 SR portfolio with new products which are ideally suited to deliver high-performance routing out to the furthest reaches of large scale networks or alternately, to enable the full benefits of service routing in smaller scale networks.”

As the newest members of the Service Router family, the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR-c12 and 7750 SR-c4 become key components of the Alcatel-Lucent High Leverage Network™ architecture—a fully converged, scalable, next-generation, all-IP multiservice infrastructure that enables operators to deliver traffic more reliably, efficiently and at the lowest cost, while also leveraging the network to generate revenue from sophisticated managed services and applications.
