Bell Labs Seoul, launched in December 2009 in cooperation with the
Seoul Metropolitan Government and Korea University, is taking advantage of Bell
Labs’ pre-eminent research capability and Korea’s deep experience in broadband
access, high speed optical and wireless networking, and applications. Bell Labs
Seoul is poised to establish itself as a world-class research center in
advanced communication technology that will benefit Korea and the region. The
research facility is expected to focus its efforts from the outset on broadband
and mobile applications and services and their enabling sciences and
technologies.
Bell Labs Seoul will provide significant benefits to both Alcatel-Lucent and
South Korea.
For Alcatel-Lucent, it will help improve
time-to-market cycles for new technologies and streamline product platforms,
ensuring that the manufacturing, test and reliability process, as well as
logistics and installation, are cost-effective.
For South Korea, it has established an effective
partnership with academia by providing a collaborative partnership with Korea
University and helping to engage and train the next generation of scientists
and engineers in South Korea.
