Revolutionary laptop security and management product
receives bronze award for emerging technology
RSA Conference, San Francisco, April 10, 2008 — Alcatel-Lucent
(Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) has again been recognized for its innovative and
revolutionary laptop security, management product, the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop
Laptop Guardian (NLG). The NLG received industry recognition as an emerging
technology in the Information Security ™ magazine
andSearchSecurity.com 2008 Readers’ Choice Awards.
The awards are based on editors who selectthree innovative technologies that
promise to address a critical security need for the enterprise or small to
medium-sized business. According to the editors, “The problem of maintaining
the security posture of laptops that are beyond the reach of corporate IT for
days, weeks or months continues to bedevil enterprises. That's why the
impressive technology behind Alcatel-Lucent’s OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop
Guardian is so attractive, and why it earned the bronze award.”
The OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian (NLG), invented by Bell Labs and
incubated by Alcatel-Lucent Ventures, leverages 3G/CDMA/W-CDMA networks to
allow enterprises to overcome the “mobile blind spot” by managing their laptops
anywhere, any time, even when the laptop is turned off. Secure, always-on,
fully-integrated third party applications and features offer enterprises a
choice of best-of-breed solutions along with visibility and control.
The always-on solution includes a PCMCIA 3G card that has a processor, flash
memory and a rechargeable battery that draws power from the laptop. It features
strong 2nd factor authentication and single sign-on through Active
Directory integration. It integrates with 3rd party disk encryption solutions –
enabling an enterprise IT manager to remotely secure data when a laptop is lost
or stolen and supports 3DES and AES for the embedded always on VPN.
Presented by the editors of Information Security™ magazine and
SearchSecurity.com™, the award selection process was extensive including
in-depth discussions and interviews between TechTarget editors, security
technology experts, and the TechTarget User Advisory board - which is comprised
of chief security officers from major US corporations - to
define the appropriate categories and criteria to encompass the most critical
security technologies and functionality. TechTarget then asks more than 1,600
information security executives and managers to assess and rate products they
deploy within their organizations from a listing of more than 360 products.
Based on their cumulative responses the judging panel selects Gold, Silver, and
Bronze award winners within the product categories.
