Miami and Murray Hill, N.J., March 25, 2008 — FPL FiberNet, a
subsidiary of FPL Group, Inc., and Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE:
ALU) today announced that FPL FiberNet selected and deployed Alcatel-Lucent’s
IP/MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) as their packet-based network to
deliver Ethernet and IP services. Alcatel-Lucent’s solution will enable FPL
FiberNet to offer a broad suite of high quality, reliable and flexible IP-based
services, as well as help FPL FiberNet meet anticipated future growth
requirements. FPL FiberNet currently serves telecommunication companies,
wireless carriers, Internet service providers, and enterprise and government

“The ability to cost effectively deliver Metro Ethernet services as well as
the efficient aggregation of multi-service traffic over an all-IP network is
critical to our ability to meet our customers’ demand for advanced data
services,” said Carmen Perez, FPL FiberNet President. “By enabling
high-performance, multi-service switching throughout our network,
Alcatel-Lucent’s solution – coupled with its experience in IP network
transformation – gives us a significant advantage as we move to the next phase
of the evolution of our network.”
“Our advanced IP/MPLS solution provides a flexible and service-rich
foundation that enables FPL FiberNet to deliver the high-speed, high-bandwidth
and highly scalable solutions which help it grow and expand its customer base,”
said Cindy Christy, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s Americas business. “Using a
single, flexible Alcatel-Lucent infrastructure helps FPL FiberNet reduce
network complexity and increase revenues as it evolves and expands.”
Alcatel-Lucent is deploying its industry-leading IP/MPLS portfolio, spanning
the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router, Alcatel-Lucent 7450 Ethernet Service
Switch, Alcatel-Lucent 7250 Service Access Switch and Alcatel-Lucent 5620
Service Aware Manager. Over 200 service providers in more than 80 countries
around the world have selected the Alcatel-Lucent IP/MPLS portfolio as key
elements of their IP transformation. According to Ovum RHK, Alcatel-Lucent
