Team based in Germany
Overview:
Creation of a child care system during the summer holidays at the schools in
Nuremberg. This allows employees to continue to work, even if the school is
closed, by providing them with a child care alternative that takes place at a
"Children After School Facility/Day Care Facility". The city of
Nuremberg/Youth Service provides the qualified personal, and the program is
funded by the parents, with some support of Alcatel-Lucent. The team had also
presented other projects in the field of CSR:
- Co-organizing Girls' Day in April 2006, together with the
Women-in-Leadership-at-Lucent team
- Arranging several charity projects for the Martin-Luther-Haus nursery
- Representing Lucent in the federal government project "Audit Familie und
Beruf" (audit family and workplace), an initiative to motivate companies to
offer family friendly work conditions.
- Organizing family-friendly events for employees at the 10th anniversary of
Lucent in Germany
- Organizing elder care for employees whose parents need health care.
Judges' Comment: "First remark: in their judging, the jury
evaluated this project together as one with the Social Responsibility in
Nuremberg project, as both nominations focus mainly on work-family related
issues.
The project confirms that Alcatel-Lucent works to be at the top of CSR by
tackling an issue that can be seen as one of the key challenges in the German
context. The initiatives, such as the creation of a day care, show positive
advancement and results, illustrated by the certification of Alcatel-Lucent as
a 'family friendly' company in a countrywide scheme. This initiative publicly
and transparently showcases the strong commitment of Alcatel-Lucent to the
goals of the European and German authorities on providing a decent working
environment.
This project was chosen in part because of its geographical implementation.
Work-life balance is a big issue in Germany, and this project is certainly an
exemplary project for other companies in Germany. It also benefits from a
partnership with local and federal German government and is positioning the
company as a leader on this subject."
