Paris, July 9, 2009 — Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris
and NYSE: ALU) has been chosen by Samart Telcoms, a provider of network system
services in Thailand and a member of the JJS consortium, to supply an
intelligent optical network for TOT Public Company Limited (TOT). This contract
will support TOT’s IP broadband project, and is the largest transmission deal
of this kind in Thailand and in the Southeast Asian region.
Alcatel-Lucent will provide Samart Telcoms with an integrated,end-to-end
solution allowing TOT to meet the increasing number of users while supporting
the bandwidth demands driven by next-generation 3G services. Samart Telcoms
will benefit from Alcatel-Lucent’s unparalleled experience in network
roll-outs, project execution and network maintenance.

About the Alcatel-Lucent solution
Under the terms of the contract, Alcatel-Lucent will provide an intelligent
optical core solutions based on its 1678 Metro Core Connect (MCC) and Optical
Multi-Service Node (OMSN) systems. This solution will leverage Generalized
Multi-Protocol Label Switching/Automatically switched optical network
(GMPLS/ASON) providing high level of network reliability while maximizing
operational efficiency and reducing capital expense. Cost-effective long-haul
transmission will be ensured by the Alcatel-Lucent 1626 Light Manager (LM) that
provides unique fully-tunable and reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplex
architecture, enabling operators to design, plan and operate their networks
with dramatically enhanced agility. The Alcatel-Lucent end-to-end solution,
managed by the Alcatel-Lucent 1350 network management, will position Samart
Telecom to deliver TOT an advanced, high-capacity optical network
infrastructure to meet the growing demand of TOT’s business and residential
users at the lowest cost per transported bit.
