Paris, June 23, 2008 – Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that Telenor Global Services (TGS), Telenor’s international business, has selected Alcatel-Lucent to provide an IP Next Generation Network (NGN) for their services worldwide. An all-IP network will enable TGS to deliver advanced voice, video, data and IP services effectively in all the countries it operates.

Telenor Global Services is providing international interconnect services to Telenor’s 140 million mobile subscribers in Asia and Europe. They are also providing services to other telecom operators.

The first phase of TGS’s IP transformation project involves points of presence in Oslo, Hong Kong and Singapore and will cover the need for international voice and mobile services in the Asia region, Gradually the project will include new countries.

"We feel confident that a global IP network, based on Alcatel-Lucent’s future oriented solutions, will facilitate operations, open up for new advanced services and make us better prepared for the future. Alcatel-Lucent’s experience in transformation projects was important for our decision”, says Per Raaum, Vice President Networks at Telenor Global Services.

"Being selected as a trusted partner to an advanced carrier such as TGS confirms Alcatel-Lucent’s strong position in network integration and as a provider of IP transformation solutions said Fred Rose, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s activities in Europe, Asia and Africa. “TGS recognizes our solid track record of delivering complex network projects that require not only technology excellence, but the network know-how to operate and maintain the network in a cost effective and high quality manner."

Telenor has contracted Alcatel-Lucent to design and integrate the total multivendor network solution. Project management, installation and commissioning are also included in the contract. Telenor will retain network operations.

The solution purchased by Telenor is the Alcatel-Lucent NGN Class 4 / Peering Solution, which expands Class 4 services to IP Peering, thereby providing converged interconnect transit services for wholesale carriers. It involves the Alcatel-Lucent 5020 Media Gateway Controller-12, the Alcatel-Lucent 7510 Media Gateway, and the Fortinet Fortigate firewall. The globally distributed solution includes the 5020 MGC-12 - centrally located in Oslo, and points of presence in Singapore and Hong Kong that contain the media gateways, firewalls, and 7710 Service Router.

Expected date of commercial operation is May 2009.
