Paris, August 5, 2009 — Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and
NYSE: ALU) today announced that Cox
Business has selected Alcatel-Lucent’s IP service router products and
services to support Ethernet-based solutions for its business and carrier
customers.
Alcatel-Lucent’s industry-leading Internet Protocol/Multiprotocol Label
Switching (IP/MPLS) solution simplifies network operations and makes it easier
for Cox Business to continue to evolve its data services suite and add new
services for its customers.
Cox Business is currently the fourth largest provider of business Ethernet
services in the U.S. based on customer ports, according to industry research
and analysis firm Vertical Systems Group.
“Ethernet offers network flexibility and more capabilities at a lower cost,
making it the preferred networking technology of many IT decision makers,” said
Kristine Faulkner, vice president of product development and management, Cox
Business. “Cox Business delivers reliable Ethernet solutions to our customers
over both fiber and hybrid fiber coax (HFC), and Alcatel-Lucent will aide in
the future evolution of our portfolio.”
The Alcatel-Lucent solution enables Cox Business to deliver enhanced
business services over a common service routing edge based on the
Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router. This solution allows Cox Business to take
advantage of a cost-optimized, reliable, feature-rich service delivery
infrastructure that can seamlessly scale to address managed data service market
needs.
Alcatel-Lucent also provided integration and testing services, using its
broad experience with IP transformation projects and will continue to support
Cox Business to simplify the network and provide higher capacity, services and
reliability while reducing costs.
“Cox Business became the first multiple
system cable operator to enter the top tier of U.S. business Ethernet
providers and continues to be at the forefront of advanced data products,”
said Charles Marsh, vice president of sales for Alcatel-Lucent’s North America
major accounts. “By choosing Alcatel-Lucent’s service routing platforms, Cox
Business is underscoring not only its confidence in our technology, but also
its commitment to provide advanced and reliable services to its customers.”
As one of the leading Ethernet providers in the U.S., Cox Business is
actively involved with technical associations, standards bodies and industry
associations dedicated to accelerating the adoption of Ethernet services, such
as the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF). The
organization has certified Cox Business as
MEF 9 and 14 compliant, the hallmark of carriers who deliver advanced
Ethernet services. Robert Kuse, senior technical project manager at Cox,
currently sits on the MEF board of
directors.
Cox Business provides voice, data and video services for nearly 250,000
small and regional businesses, including health care providers, K-12 and higher
education, financial institutions and federal, state and local government
organizations. Cox is currently the seventh largest voice service provider in
the U.S., and provides more than 650,000 phone lines to business customers. For
