FOR RELEASE MONDAY FEBRUARY 12, 2001
MyVitalAgent supports DSL, cable and dial-up modem Internet access users and
is available now at http://www.myvitalagent.com
SUNNYVALE, Calif. - Lucent Technologies' (NYSE: LU) VitalSoft unit today
unveiled a free version of its VitalAgent™ technology for PC users to monitor
their online performance. MyVitalAgent™ -- the next generation of the
groundbreaking Net.Medic™ software -- gives PC users a complete view of their
Internet activity connected through digital subscriber line (DSL), cable, or
dial-up Internet access. MyVitalAgent is available now, free of charge at http://www.myvitalagent.com.
MyVitalAgent provides PC users complete, end-to-end network visibility-the
ability to monitor the entire Internet path to determine which components are
causing delays. From the MyVitalAgent dashboard, users can view specific
details about their current online session, such as the connection speed, data
transmission, and transaction time. This valuable information helps to identify
and understand the source of performance delays, as well as discover
informative trends affecting Internet usage.
"We've helped thousands of Service Providers and Enterprise customers
manage the performance of their network applications through our VitalSuite™
product line," said Elvin Ambler, general manager of VitalSoft, Lucent
Technologies Worldwide Services' division that produces VitalSuite. "We're
now excited to provide our VitalAgent technology free of charge to help the
consumer understand and take control of their Internet experience."
MyVitalAgent monitors all network transactions from the PC, through the access
device (such as the dial-up modem, cable modem or DSL modem), across Internet
backbones, through the Internet Service Provider (ISP), and back. Additionally,
MyVitalAgent monitors the performance of popular Internet applications, such as
Web, e-mail, RealAudio™, and common Internet protocols like File Transfer
Protocol (FTP). When problems occur, MyVitalAgent immediately isolates and
diagnoses the source and alerts the user to take action. From busy signals to
bottlenecks, MyVitalAgent prescribes the appropriate remedy for resolving the
issue.
Improves the Customer - Service Provider Relationship
Through the data collected by MyVitalAgent, users are better informed of the
root cause of the network delay or transmission failure. From a Service
Provider perspective, MyVitalAgent helps eliminate the pre-qualifying questions
of a typical support call. Even more, MyVitalAgent shows users the bottleneck
points beyond service provider services - alleviating the service provider as
the sole source of problems.
Service Providers using VitalSuite SP (the service provider edition) can take
advantage of MyVitalAgent's features to validate their level of service. Though
MyVitalAgent is a stand-alone application that does not transmit the collected
data beyond users desktops, service provider customers using VitalSuite SP can
distribute a special version of MyVitalAgent as part of their service offering
that can report back to the service provider's VitalSuite SP server.
"For our VitalSuite SP customers, leveraging the information collected from
MyVitalAgent can improve their customer satisfaction ratings by validating the
performance and quality of their Internet services. This translates into a
higher level of service and a distinguishing value for a service provider's
business," Ambler said.
