The Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch 6850 (OS6850) series is comprised of layer-3
Gigabit Ethernet fixed configuration switches that address the needs of modern
enterprise and triple-play networking with flexible, stackable configurations;
power-over-Ethernet, high availability, first-packet wire-speed performance,
and dramatically improved network response time over past models. Also included
in the OS6850 family is the OmniSwitch 6850L, a Fast Ethernet model that is
upgradeable to Gigabit.
All of the models in the family are stackable with other OmniSwitch 6850
models and perform wire-rate layer-2 switching and layer-3 routing for both
IPv4 and IPv6 with optimal quality of service (QoS) for mission critical
applications. The flexible configuration options makes the OS6850s suitable for
a small/medium network in the core or at the edge of a large network where they
deliver line-rate gigabit switching and routing performance along with
extensive network security features.
Performance - supports real-time voice, data, and video applications
OneTouch network management - benefits from using the same operating system (
AOS) ad managed by the Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista Network Management System for
simplified OneTouch manageability. Extensive secure network services - provided
through network access control and powerful authentication and automatic
containment and remediation by Alcatel-Lucent's Access Guardian and tight
integration with the Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista 2770 Quarantine Manager. High
availability - the virtual chassis minimizes network downtime, reduces
operational complexity and cost and increases availability for mission-critical
applications by removing single points of failure. Ipv6 support - extends the
life of existing equipment and prevents future expenses that would be required
to upgrade to a switch that supports IPv6 RoHS compliant - limits the amount of
hazardous waste in use Gigabit at the edge - provides the intelligence,
security and availability needed for the most demanding applications and user
requirements. Server aggregation - the small form factor, high performance and
rich feature set makes it a great aggregation switch, especially for space
constrained data centers where the switch can be installed in the same rack as
the servers.
